Hints of Colour
Colour has been broken down into names, codes or chemical formulas since we had the sense of colour. The categorization makes it easier to distinguish between colours. We keep digging deep in the mine of colour, even we have reached the point where we cannot tell the difference between the two.
In the past, we have associated shapes, feelings and meanings with colour. It is inexorable for the colour to brew in the process of cultural development. But somehow, we no longer FEEL colour but THINK about colour. Red is a sign of danger while green is about nature.
It is a fascinating experience to create images with the inspiration of colour, as image and colour are alike. Images are deconstructed into pixels, defined by the shutter speed and aperture. The rational mindset makes photography practical. However, photography is not only about those digits. It is not what photography is about. It is not what colour is about.
The combination of the photographers – Douglas, Dominic and 8 photography students – is something exciting. The chemical reaction between the experienced and the fresh-minded is vigorous yet harmonious. The rapid exchange of thinking and feeling towards colour leads to the series of images – Hints of Colour.
